The conference will begin with a full day of free public lectures, featuring approximately 60 presentations from water experts in the U.S. and abroad. The following three days, open to conference registrants only, will feature in-depth discussions examining the use of markets and policy processes in water allocation; mechanisms for integrating environmental, cultural, and other values in water regimes; and conflicts and cooperative efforts associated with transboundary water resources. The goal will be to identify strategies for achieving sustainability in the West.
Domestic presenters include Peter Gleick, Pacific Institute for Studies in Development, Environment and Security; Helen Ingram, University of California, Irvine; Aaron Wolf, Oregon State University; and Dan Tarlock, Chicago-Kent College of Law. Panelists from Europe, Africa, South America, North America, and Australia are also confirmed, drawn from a variety of academic organizations, governments, and major international organizations including the World Bank and United Nations.
